                        ThyThybony Paint & Wallcoverings is a family business which

had the rare honor of celebrating its 100th anniversary in

1986 - still in the same family, still in the same business -

providing quality products to our customers.

The Thybony story is one of conscious adaptation to survive

and prosper in the changing wallcovering marketplace,

a process that was set in motion when William W. Thybony

opened a paint and wallcovering store at 356 West Chicago

Avenue back in 1886, and continues today with the company's

well-diversified posture.

William W. Thybony, grandfather of Jim Thybony, who

currently owns and operates Thybony Wallcoverings, had

apprenticed in the decorating trade in his native Sweden

before emigrating to Chicago.  That first Thybony store,

located in a Swedish neighborhood, served the many

Swedish immigrants who became painters and decorators

in turn-of-the-century Chicago.
